Homemade Brown Sugar

I don't use brown sugar a lot, so it always seems to be as hard as a rock when I go to use it, no matter how airtight I keep it. So this homemade version has really worked well for me. Additionally, brown sugar tastes a lot better fresh! All you need is 5 minutes, a hand mixer, sugar, and molasses. Yep, that's it! With only two ingredients it couldn't more simple!

Homemade Brown Sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1-2 tablespoons mosasses

  1. Place in a bowl and mix well, using a hand mixer if needed. Store in a cool, dry place.
  2. Enjoy!

Dairy Free Milk Taste Test!

I thought it would be fun to do a blind taste test on a few of my friends that aren't used to eating dairy free milk! The results were amazing. To do this test I put different milk sample in a small cup and had everyone try each different kind of milk. The milks tested were flax, hemp, coconut, rice, and almond. It was hilarious to see everyone's reactions!

Ask everyone which was there favorite...

LIAM (age: 9)-
  1. Flax:Yummy, would drink again, would eat in cereal, would drink plain.
  2. Hemp: Like it, tastes like cashews, would not eat in cereal
  3. Coconut: not tested
  4. Rice: no, weird taste, not in cereal
  5. Almond: not tested
The hemp milk was Liam's favorite. Liam would drink the flax milk plain.

JOEL (age: 10)-
  1. Flax:favorite, has a vanilla taste, better than real milk
  2. Hemp:least favorite, tastes like sour milk, did not like taste
  3. Coconut:not tested
  4. Rice:tastes like rice, yummy, bland
  5. Almond:allergic
The flax milk was Joel's favorite. Joel would drink the flax milk plain. He would use the rice milk in his cereal.

RACHEL (age: 14)-
  1. Flax: okay, best, favorite
  2. Hemp: disgusting, very fatty
  3. Coconut:not tested
  4. Rice:bland, tastes like rice
  5. Almond:thick, chocolaty
The flax milk was Rachel's favorite. Rachel would drink flax or almond milk plain.

CLARA (age: 16)-
  1. Flax:fatty taste, wouldn't eat plain, too sweet
  2. Hemp: fatty, sour, almond taste, bad aftertaste
  3. Coconut: not tested
  4. Rice: watery, coconut taste, wouldn't have a glass of it
  5. Almond:sweet, chocolaty taste, would drink plain
The flax milk was Clara's favorite because it was sweet but not overpowering. Clara would drink the flax, or almond milk plain.

Remember Clara? I did a post about her here.

Overall, everyone liked the flax milk the most. If you haven't tried it yet, I would really recommend it! Flax Milk

I prefer to bake with flax or rice milk in most of my baked goods. Which is your favorite in cereal? What about for baking? Which would or do you drink plain?

Gluten Free All Purpose Flour

I felt like it was my duty, as a gluten free blogger to share my all purpose flour recipe. Now, yes, there are a lot of gluten free flours out there- Bob's Red Mill, The Gluten Free Pantry, you name it. Buuuuttttt.... they're so expensive. Plus you can't go anywhere without a good gluten free flour! This flour keeps well for a few months, or even longer if frozen!
Side note: this is the best tool! It sifts and mixes at the same time :)

Gluten Free All Purpose Flour

4 cup sweet white sorghum flour
4 cup garbanzo bean flour
3 cup tapioca starch   (potato or arrowroot also work)

Whisk together and store in an airtight container. Can be used for all recipes that call for "Gluten free all purpose flour." (which includes most of mine)
