Baked Oven Fries

Summer is quickly approaching and you know what that means...grill night! And you can't have grill night without fries! It's a summer staple, but finding the right recipe can seem impossible  right? Look no further, I've got you covered! These are the type of fries that you take one bite and just can't stop. They're fluffy on the inside while still staying crispy on the outside. 

When I was still searching for the "perfect" recipe, I decided to use Pinterest. When I searched baked oven fries, it was obvious the dominant pin was Annie's Eat's recipe, with bold comments exclaiming "must try" or "best recipe EVER". I couldn't pass it up. As soon as I tried the first bite...I couldn't control myself. Try for yourself and you will see:)

Baked Oven Fries
3 russet potatoes, peeled and cut lengthwise into even sized wedges
5 tablespoons vegetable, canola, peanut, or grape seed oil, divided
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more for taste

  1. Preheat oven to 475. Place potato wedges in a large mixing bowl. Cover with hot water; soak for 10- 30 minutes. Place 4 tablespoons of oil into heavy rimmed baking sheet. Tilt the sheet side to side to evenly coat the pan with oil (a pastry brush works also). Sprinkle the pan evenly with salt and pepper, set aside.
  2. Drain the potatoes, and spread the wedges on layers of paper towels. Pat dry with additional paper towels. Wipe out now empty bowl so that it is dry. Return potatoes to the bowl and toss with 1 tablespoon oil. Arrange the potatoes onto the baking sheet into a single layer. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 5 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to bake until spotty brown, about 15-20 minutes, rotating the baking sheet after 10 minutes. Using a metal spatula and tongs, flip over each potato wedge, keeping in a single layer. Continue baking until fries are crisp and golden, 5-15 minutes. Rotate the pan as needed to ensure even browning.
  3. When fries are finished baking, transfer to a paper towel lined plate to drain some of the grease. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.
